One needs not to be rich or powerful in society to bring about a change. This idea is what drove Salimatu Shaibu, a 22 year old Nursing student to appeal to her friends, community and the world to support to organize an event where a change will be effected by ordinary people.

After several weeks of appeal to the general public, a total amount of GH 1,500.00 cedis was realised to organize and support children in Tuunayili, a village in Tamale. Most of the children in this community had dropped out of school for several reasons including the lack of basic educational materials.

Presenting some educational materials to the community, Salimatu Shaibu, the brain behind the project, called on the community to wake up and take their own responsibility in their hands, she encouraged the people to take education seriously because education is the key to development.

In all 10 kids were selected and school uniforms were presented to them. Other items distributed included Exercises books, pens, pencils, erasers and sharpeners.
Traditional leaders who were present at the event also pledged their support for the project and urged the organizers to do more for the community to keep the children in school.

The chief of Tuunayili assured the organizers of his continuous support saying that “we will make sure these children stay in school.”
The organizers pledged to do more in the coming months to extend their outreach to other communities and increase their donation. They however called on the General public to support them with any donations both in cash and kind.
